There’s no shortage of “getting started with Prometheus” tutorials. What’s harder to find is the messy middle: why a dashboard is lying to you, why the cost of that component hasn’t gone down after all those optimisations, or why a Kubernetes pod that looks “Running” is actually dead inside. That’s the stuff I want to write about here.
